If, like us, you love being on, in or beside the sea, Cornwall can be a magical place over Christmas and the New Year.
Locals and visitors of all ages can enjoy a great range of winter activities at some of our charming villages and bustling ports, making the most of the colder weather to bundle up warm or enjoy a cup of something hot.
We’ve pulled together some of our favourite experiences and things to do in Cornwall over Christmas and the New Year if you want to spend the season beside the water.
Light up the night
A trip to see Christmas lights is always a real treat, but when you’re visiting a seaside spot, it really is wonderful. Seeing multi-coloured lights reflect on the water from the harbour walls, or even floating in some cases, makes a night to remember. Our favourites include the Mousehole lights and the illuminations in Padstow.
Handmade crafts & buying local
If you’re looking for a Christmas Market, Cornwall has lots to choose from. Stock up on beautiful, unique and locally-produced foods, homewares, jewellery and more to surprise and delight your loved ones (or pick up a little something for yourself!). There are lots of Christmas markets throughout the county, so why not head over to Fowey or make a visit to Polperro.
Jingle all the way
Few things feel more festive than a good old sing along. Choirs up and down the county have been practicing for months, ready to bring some classic carols to our waterside towns and villages. Whether you’re just there to listen, or are keen to sing along, you’ll find great events throughout Cornwall, including Falmouth’s Festive Weekend and events in Newquay, St Ives and Penzance.
Get festive and get fit
Santa Fun Runs have become increasingly popular over the last few years. It really is a funny sight to see hundreds of santas big and small running through the streets. Why not join in with a Santa Fun Run in Cornwall this year? You’ll find seaside events in Falmouth and Padstow, and others inland, such as Truro and Helston.
