Our Charter Process
We want to make it as easy and straightforward as possible for you to set sail on your yacht charter in Cornwall.
Below, you’ll find out more about paying for your charter experience, how we’ll communicate with you and other information you’ll need to provide as your charter approaches.
At any time, please feel free to contact the BYC team if you have any queries.
Once you have made your booking...
The full balance for your yacht charter must be paid at least 28 days before your booking date.
If you have more than 28 days to go when you book your charter, you’ll be given the option to pay a 25% deposit, with the outstanding balance to follow.
Once you have made your booking, you will receive a confirmation email.
This will include all the important information regarding your booking, such as the time and dates and the type of charter.
You’ll also find an outline of any outstanding information we require, and a reminder of what is included.
No security deposits are required for skippered charters.
If you have booked a bareboat yacht charter, you’ll be required to pay a security deposit of £1200 before your charter experience. You can find out more about this in the bareboat charter terms and conditions.
We will ask you for different information depending on whether you have booked a skippered charter or a bareboat charter.
For example, for those on a bareboat charter, we will require proof of your qualifications and ability to sail the yacht.
You’ll receive an email outlining the information we need in plenty of time before your booking date.
You will have received emails by now confirming when and where to meet the BYC team member either completing your bareboat handover, or skippering your charter.
This is usually at our base in Falmouth, Cornwall, where our charter yachts are moored.
We’ll make sure you’re clear about what you need to bring, what is provided and other important details such as car parking options.
All our yachts are insured under policies with normal Institute Yacht Clauses including charter use, subject to certain deductibles or excesses. In the event of a claim being necessary, the security deposit will be withheld to meet any costs not recovered under the yacht’s Insurance. Where professional skippers have been employed, either directly by charterer or indirectly through Bowman Yacht Charters, the charterer remains liable for losses or damages during the charter period.
Safety whilst afloat is a priority at Bowman Yacht Charters. All our Yachts have passed stringent checks by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), and carry life jackets & harnesses, liferafts, flares and other items of safety equipment. At the point of handover you will be given a comprehensive briefing on the yacht and its equipment. If at any time you want to ask any questions with regards to the yacht’s equipment, our staff will be happy to help.
We try to be as flexible as possible and will do our best to accommodate your requirements. Please discuss with our charter team in advance. Please note we reserve the right to charge £25 per hour for yachts that are returned late.At the beginning of your charter your yacht will be clean and ready to sail, with a full tank of fuel and water tanks and sufficient gas for the duration of the yacht charter. We do expect that you return the yacht in a similar state, clean and tidy and with tanks refilled. We reserve the right to make a charge should the yacht be left in dirty condition.
